Mahasthangarh is one of the earliest urban archaeological sites in Bangladesh, dating back to the 3rd century BCE. Located in Bogra district, it was the ancient capital of the Pundra Kingdom, known as Pundranagara in historical texts. The site covers approximately 10 square kilometers and features extensive fortifications, mounds, and ruins that provide evidence of continuous habitation from the Mauryan period through the medieval era. Mahasthangarh offers a fascinating glimpse into Bangladesh's ancient history and is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in South Asia.
